Default Is Hip Hop #1 music genre?

I knew that Hip Hop/Rap music was quickly becomming the most common genre of music, but I cannot find that statistic anywhere. Last I saw on Billboard, Country Music was the #1 music genre in America. I had a lil debate with one of my comrads and we cannot detrermine who is right! I am listening.

Oh, and ask KRS One if you want the truth.

well commercial hip hop is #1 maybe but that depends on what you factors you take into consideration i mean as far as radio in ct yes but that depends on what radio stations you listen to and who you ask and then factor in what you consider to be hip hop.i mean what the radio plays to most people i know they dont consider it to be hip hop.whats on the radio now is more like pop hop to me remember when artist used to have something to say when a song came on the radio.and to be honest as a producer there is more money in country than hip hop and there will always be.when have you seen a hip hop artist get 100 mill to be in vegas.how many large venues do hip hop artist play at?yes hip hop brings in alot of money no doubt about it.but as far as staying power no hip hop is not #1 in my humble opinion.im not the end all be all of the music industry but hip hop has in terms of artistry gone way do hill.

I too agree with rile. It depends on who you ask, but I also think what Fire says has a lil merrit. Hip Hop, or Pop Hop is everywhere. Sports, commercials, video games, MySpce, and the list goes on and on. Yeah, these cats may not be getting 100k to do a show, but are the country cats selling a $100k worth of ringtones? (FYI, I don't know the answer to that) Yeah, maybe today's Hip Hop/Rap music is a lil watered down, but no has re-named the watered down version a new genre. So guess what?!!! For now, it's HIP HOP and I think it's #1.
